PREVENTION OF BURNS

1. Never drink anything hot while holding a baby.

2. Test the temperature of baby's milk before letting him drink from his bottle.

3. Lower your hot water heater to <130o.

4. Place cooking pots on the back burner of stove.

5. Keep hot liquids and appliances away from edge of table/counters.

6. Don't use a hot steam vaporizer, only a cool mist vaporizer.

7. Test the temperature of bath water before letting the child bathe.

8. Place smoke detectors on every floor in your house; check batteries monthly.

9. Keep matches, cigarette lighters, and cigarette butts away from children.

10. Buy flame resistant sleepwear for your children.

11. Teach your child how to exit the house in case of fire; practice a fire drill.

12. Always supervise children around fires, heaters, and stoves.

13. Test the temperature of buckles in the carseat before placing your baby in.

14. Never allow young children to handle fireworks.

15. Apply sunscreen to children when they play outdoors in the midday.
