PREVENTION OF HEAD TRAUMA

1. Children less than 40 pounds should be placed in a car safety seat.

2. Children 40 to 60 pounds should be place in a car safety booster seat.

3. Have children wear helmets when riding bikes.

4. Make sure your child is old enough to handle a bike and understand safety rules before learning to ride a bike.

5. Always supervise young children playing in the yard or playground.

6. Make sure a sturdy gate is placed at the top of stairs.

7. Don't leave small infants alone on counters, chairs, tables, beds, or shopping carts.

8. Make sure to have a side rail on a bunk bed and don't let small children sleep on the top bunk.

9. Always keep up the side rails on a crib and lower the mattress when your baby starts to stand up.

10. Make sure your child's bed frame is sturdy enough to prevent the mattress from falling through and don't let children jump on beds.

11. Don't use a baby walker since one third of them will have accidents.

12. Keep windows shut or secured to prevent children from leaning or crawling outside and falling.
