To understand your baby's development, you must understand the sum of the different types of development your baby is going through. In general, the main areas of development are Receptive Development (hearing, seeing, and gathering information from its environment), Motor Development (ability to grab things, sit, stand, walk etc.), and Communicative Development (ability to speak, write, and communicate with others). The following pages describe baby's development and list examples of developmental milestones for various ages. They only represent what some or most babies might be able to do at that age. These pages are not meant to be a test that show whether your baby passes or fails in their development. Remember, all babies progress at different rates. Many factors such as any coexisting illness, or problems within the family may slow baby's development. Older brothers or sisters may even help baby's development along. These pages are meant to be a guide and to help you go over these steps of development with your baby's doctor at their well baby checkups. Please print the milestones page for your baby's age, answer the questions for your baby, and take the yes/no answers with you when you see the doctor for well baby checkups at each of the ages. |
