Growth charts are tools to assess your baby's physical growth development. Each time your child goes for a well child checkup, the height, weight, and sometime head circumference will be measured. This will be recorded on the child's health care records to document their development.
An infant with failure to thrive will be substantially underweight compared to their height. An obese child would have a weight more than 20% ideal for their height.
Although nutrition and illness may affect a child's growth, the biggest influence is heredity. Tall families tend to have tall children.
Now you can follow their development at home. New growth charts have just been published. Find the charts for your child's age and print them to keep for monitoring your child's development. Some rules of thumb for predicting normal growth can also be tried.
